A powdered abrasive cleanser that exhibits superior soil removal properties and surface safety is provided. The cleanser includes a surfactant, an optional source of active chlorine a borax pentahydrate compound that is preferably sodium tetraborate pentahydrate, and optionally an alkaline detergentbuilder and/or calcium carbonate. 23
