An apparatus for preparing extracted patterns of coloration firings for dental protheses, consisting of an open mold (1) and a push rod (3) that can be axially adjusted therein and which holds a pattern plate (2, 7). The mold (1) has a hollow shaft (4), an axially adjustable adjusting nut (5) being screwed onto the end of this, the end of the push rod (3) being held in said adjusting nut (5). The pattern plate (2, 7) is held on the push rod (3) by means of a ball-joint connection (6). Accordingly, the push rod (3) can be held in the adjusting nut (5) so as to be freely rotatable. The pattern plate is formed in one piece and is secured to the push rod (3) so as to be releasable therefrom, or it can be formed in two parts from a carrier plate (2) and a mold body (7) that is secured on the carrier plate (2) so as to be releasable therefrom.
