The present invention discloses extracellular/epidermal growth factor polypeptides and polynucleotides encoding such polypeptides. Also provided is a procedure for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques and therapeutic uses of the polypeptides which include induction of DNA synthesis, stimulating wound healing, treating neurological disorders, treating ocular disorders, treating kidney and liver disorders and stimulating embryogenesis and angiogenesis. Also disclosed are antagonists against such polypeptide and their use as a therapeutic to treat neoplasia. Also disclosed are diagnostic assays for detecting altered levels of the polypeptide of the present invention and mutations in the nucleic acid sequences which encode the polypeptides of the present invention.
L'invention porte sur un polypeptide extracellulaire/épidermique facteur de croissance et sur des polynucléotides codant ce polypeptide. Sont également proposés un procédé pour produire de tels polypeptides par des techniques recombinantes et des applications thérapeutiques de ces polypeptides, comprenant l'induction d'une synthèse d'ADN, la stimulation de la guérison des plaies, le traitement de troubles neurologiques, le traitement de problèmes oculaires, rénaux, ou hépatiques ainsi que la stimulation de l'embryogenèse et de l'angiogenèse. L'invention décrit en outre les antagonistes de ces polypeptides et leur utilisation thérapeutique dans le traitement de néoplasmes. Enfin elle propose des méthodes diagnostiques pour détecter les variations dans les taux de ces polypeptides et les mutations intervenant dans les séquences d'acide nucléique qui codent ces mêmes polypeptides.
