A syringe (20) for giving medical injections which has an internal mechanism for releasing, and retracting a needle (60) into the syringe after the injection has been given and retaining the needle, and a hollow plunger (30) inside the barrel of the syringe to reduce the risk of accidental needle sticks. The interior of the hollow plunger is initially hydraulically sealed off by a plunger front end wall (44) from the fluid chamber of the syringe to prevent fluid from entering the interior of the hollow plunger. After the plunger has been depressed to expel fluid from the barrel, further depression of the plunger causes cutting punch type members to sever a disc shaped flange portion of a stem type needle retaining member and the plunger front end wall thereby permitting the spring to propel the needle, and needle retaining member into the hollow plunger thereby retracting the needle and retaining member inside the barrel.

Seringue (20) pour injections médicales comprenant un mécanisme interne, qui permet de libérer et de ramener une aiguille (60) à l'intérieur de ladite seringue une fois l'injection effectuée, puis de l'y retenir; et un piston creux (30), disposé à l'intérieur du corps de la seringue de façon à réduire les risques de blessure par piqûre. La cavité du piston creux est au départ hydrauliquement séparée du compartiment fluidique de la seringue par la paroi antérieure (44) dudit piston, de façon à empêcher le fluide de pénétrer dans celui-ci. Après avoir poussé le piston afin de faire sortir le fluide du corps de la seringue, on peut continuer à pousser afin que des éléments de type poinçon de découpage séparent la partie rebord annulaire d'un élément de retenue de l'aiguille, de type tige, et la paroi antérieure du piston, ce qui permet au ressort de propulser l'aiguille et son élément de retenue à l'intérieur du piston, et donc de les ramener à l'intérieur du corps de la seringue.
