An improved system and method for maximum likelihood sequence detection is disclosed where an incoming stream of symbols subjected to intersymbol interference (ISI) are decoded without knowledge of channel coefficients. Through use of improved metrics, the Fano and stack algorithms may be employed to determine the maximum likelihood sequence detection for a given input data stream during blind equalization, offering improved performance over the Viterbi algorithm which requires foreknowledge of the channel coefficients to operate effectively.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé perfectionnés de détection séquentielle à probabilité maximale, dans lesquels un flux entrant de symboles, soumis à un brouillage entre symboles (ISI), est décodé sans connaissance des coefficients de la voie. Grâce à l'emploi de métriques perfectionnés, on peut utiliser des algorithmes de Fano et d'empilement pour déterminer la détection séquentielle à probabilité maximale, pour un flux spécifique de données d'entrée, lors d'une égalisation aveugle, ces algorithmes présentant des performances supérieures à celles de l'algorithme de Viterbi, lequel nécessite une connaissance préalable des coefficients de la voie pour pouvoir fonctionner correctement.
