Method and apparatus for welding a plurality of parallel continuous seams (34) on bellows (10) which comprise the steps of defining a welding station (100, 200) including a laser beam (501) or electron beam (700) welding source and a working plane (505) spaced from the welding source (500, 700) and wherein the working plane (505) is perpendicular and intersects a plane containing the radiation welding source (501, 700). The welding source 501, 700) spans a welding zone defined at the intersection of the working plane (505) and the plane contains the welding source. The seams (34) are maintained to be welded spaced apart and par- allel and moving at least one of the welding stations and the several workpieces, in unison, relative to one another such that the seams (34) to be welded pass through the welding zone whereby welded seams are formed continuously on the bellows.
