An implant for treating obstructive sleep apnea includes an elongated body (150) having a central region (152), a first end (154), and a second end (156) opposite the first end. The central region of the elongated body engages inframandibular musculature (126, 128) that extends between a mandible (136) and a hyoid bone (130). The first and second ends of the elongated body are optionally anchored to the mandible. The elongated body is under tension for urging the inframandibular musculature in an inferior direction, which, in turn, pulls the hyoid bone anteriorly for minimizing the likelihood of occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea episodes.

L'invention concerne un implant de traitement de l'apnée obstructive du sommeil, qui comprend un corps allongé (150) doté d'une partie centrale (152), d'une première extrémité (154) et d'une deuxième extrémité (156) située à l'opposé de la première extrémité. La partie centrale du corps allongé engage la musculature inframandibulaire (126, 128) qui s'étend entre une mandibule (136) et l'os hyoïde (130). La première et la deuxième extrémité du corps allongé sont éventuellement ancrées dans la mandibule. Le corps allongé est mis sous tension pour repousser la musculature inframandibulaire en direction du bas, ce qui tire l'os hyoïde dans la direction antérieure en vue de minimiser la probabilité de survenance d'épisodes d'apnée obstructive du sommeil.
