A diagnostic or prognostic assay is disclosed for a disease or condition characterised by abnormal methylation of cytosine at a site or sites within the glutathione-S-transferase (GST) Pi gene and/or its regulatory flanking sequences (e.g. prostate cancer and liver cancer). The assay comprises: (i) isolating DNA from said subject, and (ii) determining (e.g. by selective PCR amplification) the presence of abnormal methylation of cytosine at a site or sites within the GST-Pi gene and/or its regulatory flanking sequences.

Cette invention concerne une analyse diagnostique ou pronostique qui est destinée à une maladie ou à un état se caractérisant par une méthylation anormale de la cytosine à un ou plusieurs sites dans le gène Pi de glutathione-S-transférase (GST) et/ou dans ses régions flanquantes régulatrices (par exemple, le cancer de la prostate ou du foie). Cette analyse consiste (i) à isoler l'ADN du sujet, puis (ii) à déterminer la présence d'une méthylation anormale de la cytosine à un ou plusieurs sites dans le gène Pi de glutathione-S-transférase (GST) et/ou dans ses régions flanquantes régulatrices, par exemple par le biais une amplification sélective de la réaction en chaîne de la polymérase (PCR).
