A supplementary electric range heating element having a spiral coil arranged in concentric rings of successively greater elevation for heating cooking pans having curved lower surfaces, such as woks. The supplementary heating element is used in conjunction with a separate, primary heating element having a planar heating surface of conventional design. A modified support tray is also provided for supporting the primary heating element on a lower ledge thereof and supporting the supplementary heating element on an upper edge thereof surrounding the primary element. Each heating element has its own terminal which is insertable through a side slot formed in the support tray into a respective element block. Each element block is preferably wired to a separate switch so that the primary and supplementary heating elements are independently controllable. The combined wattage of the primary and supplementary heating elements exceeds that of a conventional element and is therefore better suited for stir-fry cooking techniques. The combined elements are also particularly well adapted for use with woks having flat bottoms and curved sides.
