The instant invention pertains to sterically hjndered amine Nght stabilizers (HALS) with low basicity at the nitrogen atom and high thermal stability. They are characterized by their spiro- substitution in the 4-position of the tetramethylpiperidine ring (Spiro-NOR-HALS). These compounds are particularly effective in stabilizing polymers, especially thermoplastic polyolefins, against the deleterious effects of oxidative, thermal and actinic radiation. The compounds are also particularly effective in stabilizing acid catalyzed and ambient cured coatings systems. They are particularly useful when high processing temperatures are additional required.

L'invention concerne des photostabilisants d'amine à encombrement stérique (HALS) présentant une faible basicité sur l'atome d'azote et une stabilité thermique élevée, et qui sont caractérisés par leur substitution spiro en position 4 du noyau tétraméthylpipéridine (Spiro-NOR-HALS). Ces composés sont particulièrement efficaces pour stabiliser des polymères, notamment des polyoléfines thermoplastiques, contre les effets nocifs d'un rayonnement oxydant, thermique et actinique. Ces composés sont aussi particulièrement efficaces pour stabiliser des systèmes de revêtement catalysés par un acide et durcis à l'air ambiant. Ils sont particulièrement utiles quand des températures de traitement élevées sont requises de manière complémentaire.
