A decoder for video signals, such as MPEG, which use motion-compensated bidirectional predictive coding performs concealment of lost or corrupted portions of a picture. For this purpose it estimates missing motion vectors by combining the two vectors which accompany a bidirectional coded frame to create a substitute vector. An encoder can be modified to enhance this de-coder operation, including forcing at least one frame per group of frames to be coded using bidirectional prediction, and constraining the two vectors so that the substitute vector is closer to the wanted value.
L'invention concerne un décodeur de signaux vidéo, tels que des signaux MPEG, utilisant un codage prédictif bidirectionnel à compensation de mouvement. Ce décodeur permet d'effectuer un masquage de parties perdues ou corrompues d'une image. Pour ce faire, il estime des vecteurs de mouvement manquants en combinant deux vecteurs qui accompagnent une trame codée de manière bidirectionnelle de façon à créer un vecteur de substitution. On peut modifier un codeur afin d'améliorer le fonctionnement de ce décodeur, notamment en forçant au moins une trame par groupe de trames à être codée au moyen d'une prédiction bidirectionnelle et en soumettant les deux vecteurs à des contraintes de manière que le vecteur de substitution soit plus proche de la valeur souhaitée.
