A system and method for synchronizing a set of nodes connected to a central switch in a multi-node data processing system, such as a NUMA data processing system, are disclosed. Initially, time base register values are retrieved from each of the set of nodes. A common time base register value is then determined based upon the time base register values received from the nodes. The common time base register value that is determined is then broadcast to each of the nodes. Prior to reading the time base register values, packet traffic among the set of nodes may be halted by broadcasting a halt traffic packet to each of the nodes. In this embodiment, normal packet traffic may be resumed after synchronization by broadcasting a resume traffic packet to each of the nodes.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de synchroniser une série de noeuds connectés à un commutateur central dans un système de traitement de données à noeuds multiples tel qu'un système de traitement de données de type NUMA (non-uniform memory access). Ce procédé consiste à extraire d'abord les valeurs de registres de base de temps (RBT) de chaque ensemble de noeuds, puis à déterminer une valeur de registre de base de temps commune à partir des valeurs de registre de base de temps reçues, et à diffuser cette valeur vers chaque noeud. Avant la lecture des valeurs des registres de base de temps, le trafic de paquets entre les ensembles de noeuds peut être interrompu par la diffusion d'un signal d'arrêt dans chacun des noeuds. Dans cette réalisation, le trafic de paquets normal peut être repris après la synchronisation, par la diffusion d'un paquet <= reprise de trafic >= dans chaque noeud.
