A clamping device for mounting a wood structure to a steel post includes an attachment member and a clamping member. The attachment member is attached to the wood structure using nails, screws or bolts. The clamping member is connected to the attachment member and adapted for clamping around the post. A bolt assembly is used to tighten the clamping member around the post thus mounting the wood structure to the post. This arrangement permits easy adjustment of the height of a plurality of such wood structures to a common height as is desirable in the erection of a fence.
