The present invention is directed to methods of treating a primary brain tumor and preventing the migratory spread of a primary brain tumor in a subject. These methods involve utilizing the CD24 surface protein selectively expressed on tumor progenitor cells as a therapeutic target as well as a means for directing oncolytic therapeutics directly to the tumor site. The present invention further relates to methods of diagnosing the presence of a brain tumor and monitoring the status of the brain tumor in a subject based on CD24 expression in tumor progenitor cells.
L'invention concerne des procédés de traitement d'une tumeur du cerveau primaire et de prévention du développement migratoire d'une tumeur du cerveau primaire chez un sujet. Ces procédés impliquent l'utilisation de la protéine de surface CD24 exprimée sélectivement sur des cellules de progéniteur de tumeur en tant que cible thérapeutique ainsi qu'un moyen pour diriger des agents thérapeutiques oncolytiques directement vers le site de la tumeur. La présente invention concerne en outre des procédés de diagnostic de la présence d'une tumeur du cerveau et de surveillance de l'état de la tumeur du cerveau chez un sujet en se basant sur l'expression de CD24 dans des cellules de progéniteur de tumeur.
