The description relates to a process for producing N-protected N-alkylated amino acids of formula (1), in which Rs and R1 to R3 have the meanings given in the description, in which a compound of said formula (1), wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom, is added to a solution of a base in a non-protic solvent which is then mixed with an alkylising agent.
