A process of chemically modifying a lignocellulosic material such as solid wood or wood chips by impregnating the lignocellulosic material with an impregnating composition comprising a dicarboxylic anhydride or a tricarboxylic anhydride, a partially or fully hydrolised polyvinyl alcohol, and water.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de modifier chimiquement une matière lignocellulosique, par exemple du bois massif ou des copeaux de bois. Ce procédé consiste à imprégner ladite matière lignocellulosique avec une composition d'imprégnation renfermant un anhydride dicarboxylique ou un anhydride tricarboxylique, un poly(alcool de vinyle) partiellement ou entièrement hydrolysé, et de l'eau.
