A pigmented blend useful for powder coatings is provided comprised of PVDF resin, a thermoplastic acrylic resin, a pigment, and about 0.1 to 5 weight percent, based on the weight of the blend, of a VDF/TFE/HFP terpolymer. Other embodiments of the invention include a process for making a pigmented powder coating composition comprising the steps of blending the foregoing components, pelletizing, and cryogenically grinding, as well as a process of coating a substrate comprising the steps of applying the coating composition on the substrate, heating the composition above its melt temperature, and cooling of the substrate and applied coating composition. It has been found that incorporation of a small percentage of a VDF/TFE/HFP terpolymer into a blend of PVDF resin, compatible thermoplastic acrylic resin, and pigment results in a coating that has fewer defects (craters and pock marks) and a smoother appearance.
