ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container and a closure therefor wherein the container has a cylindrical neck defining an access opening, the neck having an exterior configuration including a ratchet section and a spiral thread and a closure having a top portion and an annular depending flange having a spiral thread therein engage- able with said spiral thread on said neck, radially extending frangible elements on the depending annular flange, a thin flexible split ring carried on the outer ends of said frangible elements, radially inwardly extending angular projections on the inner surface of said annular ring arranged for registry with said ratchet section on said threaded neck wherein roughened surfaces are formed on the spiral thread on said neck and on the spiral thread in said closure increasing frictional engage- ment between the spiral threads when said closure is engaged on said neck so that the closure retrains a fixed position on said neck of said container.
