Compounds of the general formula (See formula I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently of the other hydrogen, C1-C6alkyl, or phenyl or naphthyl, each unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C1-C4alkyl groups, R3 and R4 are each independently of the other hydrogen or C1-C4alkyl, with the proviso that R3 and R4 may not simultaneously be hydrogen, and R5 is hydrogen, C1-C6alkyl, or phenyl or naphthyl, each unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 C1-C4alkyl groups, and X is oxygen or sulfur, are very suitable flame retardants for polymers.
