Styrenic resin composition comprising a rubber modified styrene maleic anhydride copolymer and polybutene. The resin is prepared by several methods including adding polybutene into the reactor, or adding polybutene to the syrup exiting the reactor and prior to entering the devolatilizer, or compounding polybutene into the polymer in an extruder after the polymer exits the devolatilizer. The polybutene ranges from 0.1 to 8% by weight and has a number average molecular weight from 900 to 2500. The rubber ranges from 4% to 20% by weight and has a particle size from 0.1 micron to 11 microns. The resin can be extruded into sheet and thermoformed into an article or can be coextruded to produce a laminated article, which may be a container for packaged foods that can be heated in microwave ovens and which container has improved toughness, elongation, and heat distortion resistance properties.
Cette invention concerne une composition de résine styrène comprenant un copolymère d'anhydride maléique styrène modifié au caoutchouc et du polybutène. Cette résine est préparée au moyen de plusieurs procédés pouvant consister à ajouter du polybutène dans le réacteur ou à ajouter du polybutène au sirop sortant du réacteur avant qu'il ne soit introduit dans l'unité d'extraction de matières volatiles, ou encore à incorporer du polybutène dans le polymère dans une extrudeuse après la sortie du polymère de l'unité d'extraction de matières volatiles. Le polybutène représente entre 0,1 et 8 % en poids et présente un poids moléculaire moyen en nombre compris entre 900 et 2500. Le caoutchouc représente entre 4 et 20 % en poids et présente une taille des particules comprise entre 0,1 et 11 microns. La résine peut être extrudée en feuille et thermoformée en un article ou peut être coextrudée de façon qu'on obtienne un article laminé tel qu'un contenant destiné à contenir des aliments emballés pouvant être chauffés dans un four à micro-ondes, lequel contenant présente de meilleures propriétés de résistance, d'allongement et de résistance à la déformation à chaud.
