- 7 - Abstract A suction/irrigation device for surgical purposes, particularly for laparoscopic operations, comprises an elongated tube (2) insertable into a trocar sleeve and at least one connecting tube (10, 20) fitted thereto and used for connection to a supply or suction line. The connecting tube (10) is provided with a valve housing (12), in which is located a shutoff device (11) displa- ceable transversely with respect to the connecting tube axis and which by means of an actuator (13) can be displaced between a first position completely shutting off the connecting tube (10) and a second position in which a passage opening (40) provided in the shutoff device (11) opens the connecting tube cross-sec- tion. the passage opening (40) in the shutoff member (32) has a drop-shaped, elongated contour (42, 42') with respect to the connecting tube opening (30) on the side facing the latter.
