A system and method for defining and employing behaviours for articulated chains in computer animations. At least one control, such as a shape control or a resolution plane control, is defined for the articulated chain and is employed as a constraint by the animation engine when animating the chain with inverse kinematics. Each control comprises two or more keys, each key comprising a couple of an effector direction vector and an associated constraint. In the case of shape control keys, the associated constraints comprise a list of preferred limb orientations and in the case of resolution plane control keys, the associated constraints comprise a preferred orientation for the resolution plane. For any given goal, selected control keys are interpolated with appropriate weightings to obtain a resulting constraint to be employed by the animation engine.
La présente invention concerne un système et procédé permettant de définir et d'utiliser des comportements destinés à des chaînes articulées dans des animations par ordinateur. En l'occurrence, on définit pour la chaîne articulée au moins une commande telle qu'une commande de forme ou une commande de plan de résolution, et on utilise cette commande comme une contrainte reprise par le moteur d'animation pour l'animation de la chaîne avec une cinématique inverse. Chaque commande comporte au moins deux clés, chaque clé comprenant un couple constitué d'un vecteur de sens effecteur et d'une contrainte associée. Dans le cas des clés de commande de forme, les contraintes associées comprennent une liste d'orientations préférentielles des membres du corps. Dans le cas des clés de commande de plan de résolution, les contraintes associées comportent une orientation préférentielle du plan de résolution. Quels que soient les buts assignés, les clés de commande sélectionnées subissent une interpolation mettant en oeuvre des pondérations appropriées visant à l'obtention d'une contrainte résultante à faire utiliser par le moteur d'animation.
