A source-controlled Variable bit-rate Multi-mode WideBand (VMR-WB) speech codec, having a mode of operation that is interoperable with the Adaptive Multi-Rate wideband (AMR-WB) codec, the codec comprising: at least one Interoperable full-rate (1-FR) mode, having a first bit allocation structure based an one of a AMR-WB codec coding types; and at least one comfort noise generator (CNG) coding type for encoding inactive speech frame having a second bit allocation structure based on AMR-WB SID_UPDATE coding type. Methods for i) digitally encoding a sound using a source-controlled Variable bit rate multi-mode wideband (VMR-WB) speech codec for interoperation with an adaptative multi-rate wideband (AMR-WB) codec, ii) translating a Variable bit rate multi-mode wideband (VMR-WB) speech codec-signal frame into an Adaptive Multi-Rate wideband (AMR-WB) speech signal frame, iii) translating an Adaptive Multi-Rate wideband (AMR-WB) speech signal frame into a Variable bit rate multi-mode wideband (VMR-WB) speech signal frame, and iv) translating an Adaptive Multi-Rate wideband (AMR-WB) speech signal frame into a Variable bit rate multi-mode wideband (VMR-WB) speech signal frame are also provided.

La présente invention concerne un codeur-décodeur large bande multimode débit binaire variable ou VMR-WB (Variable bit-rate Multi-mode WideBand) commandé par la source, et disposant d'un mode de fonctionnement capable d'interfonctionnement avec un codeur-décodeur large bande débits multiples adaptatifs ou AMR-WB (Adaptive Multi-Rate wideband). Ce codeur-décodeur comporte au moins un mode d'interfonctionnement à débit plein (1-FR) disposant d'une première structure d'affectation binaire sur la base de l'un des types de codage du codeur-décodeur AMR-WB, et au moins un type de codage à générateur de bruit de confort (CNG) pour le codage de trames vocales inactives disposant d'une deuxième structure d'affectation binaire sir la base d'un type de codage SID_UPDATE de l'AMR-WB. L'invention concerne également des procédés permettant i) le codage numérique d'un son en utilisant un codeur VMR-WB commandé par la source pour l'interfonctionnement avec un codeur-décodeur AMR-WB, ii) la transposition de la trame de signal de codeur-décodeur VMR-WB en trame de signal AMR-WB, iii) la transposition d'une trame de signal AMR-WB en trame de signal VMR-WB, et iv) la transposition d'une trame de signal AMR-WB en trame de signal VMR-WB.
