A portable scent detection system for moving air from a search area to an animal's nose that can include a hand-held pickup for collecting air from a target area, an air moving unit containing at least one fan, a return hose coupled between the pickup and the air moving unit, and a scent presentation device worn on the animal's head with a one or more presentation ports near the animal's nose. The preferred animal is a dog; however, any animal which can be trained to indicate detection of a target scent can be used. The air moving unit can be contained in a waist or backpack for ease in use. A system of hoses normally can be run between the pickup device and the air moving unit and between the air moving unit and the scent presentation device.
La présente invention concerne un système de détection d'odeur portatif permettant de faire parvenir l'air d'une zone de recherche jusqu'aux narines d'un animal et comportant un dispositif de prélèvement portatif permettant de recueillir l'air dans une zone cible, une unité de déplacement d'air comportant au moins un ventilateur, un tuyau souple de retour reliant le dispositif de prélèvement et l'unité de déplacement d'air et un dispositif de présentation d'odeur disposé sur la tête de l'animal et équipé d'un ou plusieurs orifices de présentation d'odeur débouchant à proximité des narines de l'animal. L'animal préféré est un chien, mais on peut avoir recours à tout animal pouvant être dressé pour indiquer qu'il a détecté une odeur cible. L'unité de déplacement d'air peut être transportée dans une ceinture banane ou un sac à dos pour plus de commodité d'emploi. Un système de tuyaux peut normalement relier le dispositif de prélèvement et l'unité de déplacement d'air, ainsi que l'unité de déplacement d'air et le dispositif de présentation d'odeur.
