The present invention provides a method of treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in a patient in need thereof which comprises orally administering to the patient an effective amount of a pooled human polyclonal immunoglobulin preparation. The method allows treatment of mucosal inflammation from the luminal side of the gastrointestinal mucosa. Human immunoglobulin preparations suitable for use in the methods of the present invention may be made by any of the well-known methods used for preparing intravenous and intramuscular (parenteral) immunoglobulin preparations. Suitable immunoglobulin preparations may also be obtained commercially. The human immunoglobulin preparation may comprise any of the known immunoglobulin classes including IgA, IgG, IGM, IgE, and IgD. Preferably, the human immunoglobulin preparation comprises at least one of immunoglobulin G (IgG), immunoglobulin A (IgA) or a mixture of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin A (IgA).

L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement de maladie inflammatoire intestinale chez un sujet consistant à lui administrer par voie orale une quantité efficace d'une préparation d'immunoglobine polyclonale humaine de mélange. Le procédé permet le traitement d'inflammation de muqueuse à partir du côté de la membrane luminale de la muqueuse gastro-intestinale. Des préparations d'immunoglobine humaine, destinées à être utilisées dans les procédés de l'invention, peuvent être préparées au moyen d'une quelconque des méthodes connues utilisées dans la préparation d'immunoglobine à destination intraveineuse et intramusculaire (parentérale). Il est aussi possible d'obtenir des préparation commerciales d'immunoglobine. La préparation d'immunoglobine humaine peut contenir une classe quelconque des classes connues d'immunoglobines, notamment IgA, IgG, IgM, IgE, et IgD. La préparation d'immunoglobine humaine contient, de préférence, au moins l'une des deux immunoglobines G (IgG) ou A (IgA) ou un mélange d'immunoglobine G (IgG) et d'immunoglobuline A (IgA).
