A first telephone is connected by means of a telephone line via a line switch to a remote telephone by way of another telephone line. The user of the first telephone dials the number of the remote telephone and enters his account information. The prompter prompts the entry of the Personal Identification Number (PIN), and then all of the information is processed by the CPU and the PIN memory. Upon the completion of a successful transaction or when prompted by the 24 hour reset circuit, the PIN modifier circuit alters the appropriate PIN in the PIN memory.
