ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for using linerless label stock in a commercial packaging labeling machine is described. A print roller is positioned in close proximity to the print head for receiving linerless label stock from a supply reel. Spaced from the print roller is a peel bar comprising a relatively small diameter rod. An endless belt of silicone coated fabric travels around the print roller and peel bar. As label stock is introduced to the print head, it adheres to the endless belt and is transported between the print head and roller whereupon it is printed. As the endless belt and label stock reaches the peel bar the abrupt change of direction of the belt causes the belt and label stock to separate, whereupon the label stock is transported away from the printer in a substantially linear direction of travel.
