A surgical access device (10) including a valve housing (14) and a receiving element (38) mounted in the valve housing (14) having an aperture (39) for flexibly receiving and directing instruments having a wide range of diameters. The instrument receiving element includes a braid or mesh tube (38) generally shaped like an hourglass. The surgical access device may include an access septum seal (36) molded from a gel material. The surgical access device (10) can flexibly engage instruments having diameters ranging from about 3.5 mm to about 12.9 mm.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif chirurgical d'accès comportant un boîtier de soupape, et un élément recevant l'instrument, monté dans ledit boîtier et présentant une ouverture permettant de recevoir élastiquement et de diriger des instruments d'une grande variété de diamètres allant d'environ 3,5 à 12,9 mm. L'élément recevant l'instrument comporte un tube tressé ou maillé sensiblement en forme de sablier. Le dispositif chirurgical d'accès peut comporter un joint de septum d'accès moulé dans un gel.
