A method of converting a basketball goal which is unlit to one which may be used after dark is described. The basketball goal includes a rim portion, a net portion, and a goal mounting portion for mounting the goal adjacent a backboard surface. The rim portion has a top and bottom and has located adjacent the bottom thereof net engaging portions. The basketball net has a top and bottom and has located near the top thereof loops for engaging the netengaging portion of the rim. The method includes the following steps: (1) obtaining a flexible lighting member of predetermined length, said flexible member preferably being an array of lighting elements, such as LEDs or the like, sheathed in a resilient thermoplastic material and having disposed proximate one end thereof an end cap and having disposed proximate the other end thereof a male/female connecting portion, (2) obtaining suitable fasteners, (3) positioning said flexible lighting member proximate the net engaging portions of said basketball rim adjacent the bottom of the rim and adjacent the top of the loop elements of the net, (4) passing the fastening element proximate the leading end thereof about the basketball net loop, the flexible lighting element, and the net supporting member so as to capture these aforementioned items within a loop defined by said fastener so as to capture these elements, (5) pulling on said fastening portion so as to ensure that the flexible lighting element is snugly retained and fastened, (6) repeating the fastening of the flexible lighting member in the same manner as the above steps proximate a substantial number of or all of said net supporting members and loops so as to ensure that the flexible lighting member is disposed in the correct position proximate that predetermined location so as to -2- not interfere with the passage of the basketball through the basketball goal andfurther not to be dislodged by the impact of the basketball on the goal, (7) affixing a power supply to the end of the flexible member, whereby in carrying out said method said unlit basketball goal may be lit for use after dark.
Méthode pour convertir un panier de basket-ball qui n'est pas illuminé en un qui peut être utilisé dans l'obscurité. Le panier comporte un anneau, un filet et un support pour le panier pour le monter adjacent à la surface d'un panneau. L'anneau comprend une partie supérieure et une partie inférieure et comporte sur la partie inférieure des éléments pour accrocher le filet. La méthode comprend les étapes suivantes : (1) obtenir un élément d'éclairage flexible d'une longueur prédéterminée, l'élément flexible en question étant de préférence une configuration d'éléments d'éclairage, tels que des DEL ou autres éléments semblables, lesquels sont gainés dans un matériau thermoplastique résilient, l'élément ayant près de l'extrémité un bouchon et près de l'autre extrémité un élément de connexion mâle/femelle; (2) obtenir des éléments de fixation appropriés; (3) placer l'élément d'éclairage en question près des éléments accrochant le filet de l'anneau du panier et le placer adjacent à la partie inférieure de l'anneau et adjacent à la partie supérieure des mailles du filet; (4) faire passer l'élément de fixation près de l'extrémité avant dans les mailles du filet, autour de l'élément d'éclairage flexible et dans l'élément supportant le filet de façon à saisir les éléments susmentionnés dans une boucle définie par l'élément fixation; (5) tirer sur l'élément de fixation en question pour veiller à ce que l'élément d'éclairage soit bien fixé; (6) répéter l'installation de l'élément d'éclairage, de la même manière que celle décrite dans les étapes précédentes, dans un nombre significatif d'éléments supportant le filet et de mailles, ou dans tous les éléments supportant le filet et toutes les mailles, afin de s'assurer que l'élément d'éclairage flexible est placé dans la bonne position près de l'endroit prédéterminé pour que l'élément ne fasse pas obstacle au passage du ballon de basket dans le panier et ne se détache pas lorsque le ballon frappe le panier; (7) installer une source d'alimentation à l'extrémité de l'élément d'éclairage, de sorte qu'en exécutant la méthode en question, le panier de basket-ball non illuminé pourra l'être pour que l'on puisse s'en servir dans l'obscurité.
