A plastic pipe having a belled region to be used as a coupling to another pipe comprises a main pipe section and a shorter pipe section continuous with and diametrically expanded relative to the main pipe section to form the bell. The shorter pipe section is stiffer than the main pipe section prior to its expansion and after expansion the shorter pipe section and the main pipe section are of substantially the same stiffness.
