A method is provided for reducing a residual spot on a cathode ray tube when a power supply is turned off. The method is executed to apply a holding voltage of a voltage or a higher value enabling to enhance the back raster luminance and a cut-off voltage or lower to a second grid electrode while an anode voltage is made to a predetermined voltage value when a main power supply is turned off.
