An apparatus for characterizing and identifying individual particles, including: an input reservoir; at least one output reservoir; a channel connecting the input reservoir to the at least one output reservoir, wherein the channel is functionalized with at least one molecule selected to interact with a marker on a surface of a particle; a system to move fluid containing the particle from the input reservoir through the channel and into the at least one output reservoir; and a system to measure the period of time during which the particle moves through the channel. The particle may optionally be a cell, the at least one molecule may be a protein functionalized onto the channel to interact with the protein on the surface of the cell so as to slow passage of the target cell through the channel. By measuring the period of time during which the particle takes to move through the channel, the particle can be characterized and thereby identified.
L'invention concerne un appareil qui permet de caractériser et identifier des particules individuelles, lequel appareil comprend: un réservoir d'entrée; au moins un réservoir de sortie; un canal reliant le réservoir d'entrée au réservoir de sortie précité, le canal étant fonctionnalisé avec au moins une molécule choisie pour interagir avec un marqueur à la surface d'une particule; un système destiné à déplacer un liquide contenant la particule le long du canal depuis le réservoir d'entrée jusque dans le réservoir d'entrée précité; et un système qui mesure la période de temps durant laquelle la particule se déplace le long du canal. La particule peut facultativement être une cellule, la molécule peut être une protéine fonctionnalisée dans le canal pour interagir avec la protéine à la surface de la cellule afin de ralentir le passage de la cellule cible dans le canal. En mesurant la période de temps prise par la particule pour se déplacer le long du canal, on peut caractériser la particule et par conséquent l'identifier.
