A fluid circulation apparatus for interconnection with a wellbore tubing string for particular use in drilling deviated wellbores, such as with coiled tubing, comprises a tubular body member 30 with a longitudinal bore 32 extending therethrough and threads 34, 36 for interconnection with the tubing string. A fluid communication port 52 extends through a side wall of the tubular body member 30, and a valve 46 is placed thereacross for selectively permitting and preventing fluid flow through the fluid communication port 52. The valve 46 is biased into a normally closed position by a spring 50. Fluid control means, such as a hydraulic fluid source conveyed through the tubing string under the control of a valve device 60, operates the valve 46 in response to electrical signals sent to the valve device 60 from the earth's surface. Such apparatus can be used adjacent MWD equipment, and can be actuated from the earth's surface independently from other hydraulically operated downhole tools.
