A braking mechanism (50) for a rotary apparatus (10) having a housing (12) adapted to receive a pressurized fluid and a rotor (32) rotatably mounted in the housing. The braking mechanism (50) enables the rotor (32) to rotate in the housing (12) in response to the receipt of the pressurized fluid and inhibits the rotor from rotating in the absence of the receipt of the pressurized fluid.
