The present invention relates to a method for treating patients having Huntington's disease by a drug increasing the phosphorylation of huntingtin at position 5 S421, thereby decreasing the polyQ-huntingtin-induced toxicity. Useful compounds are selected from the group consisting of cyclosporin A, FK506, FK520, L685,818, FK523, 15-0-DeMe- FK520, Lie120, fenvalerate, resmethrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin. A method for selecting, identifying or screening a compound useful for treating a subject having Huntington's disease is also disclosed.
