The present invention discloses a selective culture medium for detecting MRSA and selective drug or multidrug resistant microorganisms where the expression of said (multi)drug resistance is by virtue of the production by said microorganisms of .beta.-lactamase enzymes. The medium comprises : (i) a broad spectrum antibiotic capable of selectively inhibiting growth/replication of (a) organisms that do not produce .beta.-lactamase enzymes, (b) organisms that while producing .beta.-lactamase do not exhibit an ESBL or AmpC phenotype and (c) Methicillin-susceptible S. aureus, and (ii) a compound capable of inducing production of .beta.-lactamases in an organism, and which compound is included at a concentration that is subinhibitory for growth of said microorganism. Also provided are a method and kit for selectively isolating any MRSA and/or ESBL or AmpC .beta.-lactamase producing microorganisms present in a sample using the selective culture medium.
La présente invention concerne un milieu de culture sélectif pour la détection de SARM et de micro-organismes sélectifs résistants à un ou plusieurs médicaments, ladite résistance à un ou plusieurs médicaments s'exprimant par la production d'enzymes .beta.-lactamases produits par ces micro-organismes. Le milieu comprend : (i) un antibiotique à large spectre capable d'inhiber sélectivement la croissance/la réplication (a) d'organismes qui ne produisent pas d'enzymes .beta.-lactamases, (b) d'organismes qui bien que produisant de la .beta.-lactamase ne présentent pas de phénotype BLSE ou AmpC et (c) de S. aureus sensible à la méthicilline. Ce milieu comprend aussi (ii) un composé capable d'induire la production de .beta.-lactamases dans un organisme, ledit composé étant présent à une concentration qui est sous-inhibitrice pour la croissance de ce micro-organisme. L'invention concerne également un procédé et un kit d'isolation sélective de SARM et/ou de micro-organismes produisant de la BLSE ou de la .beta.-lactamase AmpC dans un échantillon au moyen dudit milieu de culture sélectif.
