A computer stored raster image divided into subareas (A1, B1, C1, ...) with respective raster point positions (r1 - r9) is plotted on a photosensitive record carrier divided into subareas A1', B1', C1', ...) with respective picture element positions (p1 - p9). In relation to the raster points in the r1 positions of all the subareas A1, B1, C1, ..., the picture elements in the p1 positions of all the subareas A1', B1', C1', ... are plotted simultaneously during a first time interval; during subsequent time intervals, the picture elements in the p2 positions are plotted in relation to the raster points in the r2 positions, etc. The plotting process, which is controlled with the aid of a computer program, is carried out by means of a matrix 1 of light modulation elements LA1, LB1, LC1, ..., an aperture matrix a movementmechanism and an image-scale determining lens. The preferred application is theproduction of photographic artwork for printed circuit boards.
