The present invention concerns methods and reagents useful in modulating PTP- 1B gene expression and genes involved in the PTP-1B pathway in a variety of applications, including use in therapeutic, diagnostic, target validation, and genomic discovery applications. Specifically, the invention relates to short interfering nucleic acid (siNA), short interfering RNA (siRNA), double- stranded RNA (dsRNA), micro-RNA (miRNA), and short hairpin RNA (shRNA) molecules capable of mediating RNA interference (RNAi) against PTP-1B gene expression. The short interfering nucleic acid molecules are useful in the treatment of cancer, inflammation, obesity and insulin resistance (e.g. Type I and Type II diabetes).

L'invention concerne des méthodes et des réactifs utiles dans la modulation de l'expression génique de PTP-1B, ainsi que des gènes impliqués dans la voie de PTP-1B, dans diverses applications, notamment des applications thérapeutiques, diagnostiques, de validation de cible, et de découverte génomique. L'invention concerne en particulier des molécules d'acide nucléique d'interférence court (siNA), d'ARN d'interférence court (siRNA), d'ARN double brin (dsRNA), de micro-ARN (miRNA) et d'ARN court en épingle à cheveux (shRNA) pouvant induire une interférence ARN (RNAi) contre l'expression génique de PTP-B1. Lesdites molécules d'acide nulcéique d'interférence court sont utiles dans le traitement du cancer, des inflammations, de l'obésité et de la résistance à l'insuline (du diabète de type 1 et de type 2, par exemple).
