A chewing gum comprising at least one active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) within the core onto which is applied at least one inner polymer film coating and thereafter onto which is applied at least one outer hard coating. A preferred API is nicotine. Flavoring agents may be incorporated in the core, in the at least one inner polymer film coating and/or in the at least one outer hard coating. The gums formed exhibit a long lasting effect of flavoring agent (s) and result in the domination of flavoring agents in the coating (s) over flavoring agent (s) in the core, thereby (a) avoiding problems of chemical or pharmaceutical incompatibility between an API in the core and flavoring agent (s) in the coating (s) and (b) achieving an increased control of the release of the API and of non-active excipients.

Un chewing gum comprenant au moins un principe actif pharmaceutique (API) à noyau, sur lequel on applique au moins une couche interne de film polymère, après quoi on applique un enrobage externe dur. On choisit de préférence comme API la nicotine. Les aromatisants peuvent être incorporés dans le noyau dans la au moins une couche interne de film polymère et/ou dans le au moins un enrobage externe dur. Les chewing gums ainsi obtenus ont une action prolongée en termes d'arôme, ce qui se traduit par une présence plus marquée des aromatisants dans la couche et/ou l'enrobage par rapport aux aromatisants se trouvant dans le noyau, avec pour effet (a) d'éviter les problèmes liés à l'incompatibilité chimique ou pharmaceutique entre un API dans le noyau et un (des) un aromatisant(s) dans la couche et/ou l'enrobage et (b) d'assurer un contrôle accru de la libération du API et d'excipients non actifs.
