A system for exhaust gas purification disposed in the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, includes an adsorbent comprising a monolithic carrier and an adsorbent component having a hydrocarbon adsorptivity, loaded on the carrier, and a catalyst comprising a monolithic carrier and a catalyst component loaded on the carrier, having a purifiability for the harmful substances present in the exhaust gas emitted from the engine, the catalyst being provided downstream of the adsorbent in the flow direction of the exhaust gas. In the system, the adsorbent has a sectional shape satisfying the following relation: 1.2 ~ (major axis)/(minor axis) ~ 6.5 This system for exhaust gas purification enables the desorption of hydrocarbons from the adsorbent in a longer time and can remove the hydrocarbons generated during engine cold start, at a higher purification ratio.
Un système de purification des gaz d'échappement est placé dans un tuyau d'échappement d'un moteur à combustion interne. Le système est constitué d'un adsorbant comprenant un support monolithique et un adsorbant d'hydrocarbures, chargé sur le support, et un catalyseur comprenant un support monolythique, un composant catalyseur chargé sur le support et pouvant purifier les substances nocives présentes dans les gaz d'échappement du moteur. Dans le système, la forme en coupe transversale de l'adsorbant répond au critère suivant : 1.2 ~ (axe principal)/(axe secondaire) ~ 6.5. Ce système de purification des gaz d'échappement permet la désorption des hydrocarbures accumulés dans l'adsorbant pendant plus longtemps et peut afficher un taux de purification plus élevé pour ce qui est de l'élimination des hydrocarbures produits au cours du démarrage à froid du moteur.
