Apparatus and method for cauterizing a volume of tissue wherein electrode assemblies (52, 54) are deployed from the forward end region (48) of an instrument in conjunction with an electrosurgical cutting activity. Upon deployment to one or more deployed orientations, the electrodes assemblies (52, 54) are made biactive and the cauterization of tissue is carried out in a bipolar fashion. Following the procedure, the electrode assemblies (52, 54) are retracted toward the instrument and the instrument is withdrawn from the tissue region.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant de cautériser un volume de tissus. Des ensembles d'électrodes (52, 54) sont déployés de la zone d'extrémité avant (48) d'un instrument en conjonction avec une activité de coupe électrochirurgicale. Dès le déploiement vers au moins une des orientations déployées, les ensembles d'électrodes (52, 54) sont activés et la cautérisation des tissus s'effectue de manière bipolaire. Après quoi, ces ensembles (52, 54) rentrent en direction de l'instrument, lequel est retiré de la zone de tissus.
