According to the invention, a stop element is used for tube welding which engages with the tube and which travels with the tube so as to position the edges of the clot before the weld is produced by la laser beam (4). The travelling stop element has a plurality of stop pieces (8, 9, 10, 11) which are arranged on a chain (7) which is rotation-driven. Form elements (15, 15') act on the exterior of the clot to position the edges, thereby effecting an exact positioning of the edges for welding, especially for tube welding.
Selon l'invention, lors du soudage d'un tube, on utilise un élément de butée qui s'engage dans le tube et se déplace avec celui-ci pour positionner les arêtes de l'ébauche devant le point où s'effectue le soudage à l'aide d'un faisceau laser (4). L'élément de butée qui se déplace avec le tube comporte une pluralité de pièces de butée (8, 9, 11) qui sont disposées sur une chaîne (7) entraînée en rotation. Sur le côté extérieur de l'ébauche agissent des éléments façonnés (15, 15') servant au positionnement des arêtes. De cette façon, on peut obtenir un positionnement exact des arêtes pour le soudage, en particulier le soudage d'un tube.
