A multiple hearth furnace comprises a gas cooling system for its central shaft (20) and its rabble arms (26). This gas cooling system includes within the shaft (20) an annular main distribution channel (54, 54') for supplying a cooling gas to the rabble arms (26) and a central exhaust channel (56) for evacuating the cooling gas leaving said rabble arms (26). The gas cooling system further comprises an annular main supply channel (52, 52') surrounding the annular main distribution channel (54, 54') and being outwardly delimited by an outer shell (50) of the shaft. A cooling gas inlet (44', 44") is connected to the annular main supply channel (52, 52'). A cooling gas passage (60', 60"') between the annular main supply channel (52, 52') and the annular main distribution channel (54, 54') is spaced from the cooling gas inlet (44', 44"), so that cooling gas supplied to the cooling gas inlet (44', 44") has to flow through the annular main supply channel (52, 52') through several hearth chambers (12) before it flows through the cooling gas passage (60', 60") into the annular main distribution channel (54, 54').
L'invention porte sur un four à foyers multiples qui comprend un système de refroidissement de gaz pour son arbre central (20) et ses bras de raclage (26). Ce système de refroidissement de gaz comprend, à l'intérieur de l'arbre (20), un canal de distribution principal annulaire (54, 54') pour adresser un gaz de refroidissement aux bras de raclage (26) et un canal d'échappement central (56) pour évacuer le gaz de refroidissement quittant lesdits bras de raclage (26). Une entrée (44, 44') de gaz de refroidissement est reliée au canal d'alimentation principal annulaire (52, 52'). Un passage de gaz de refroidissement (60, 60'') entre le canal (52, 52') d'alimentation principal annulaire et le canal de distribution principal annulaire (54, 54') est espacé de l'entrée de gaz de refroidissement (44', 44'), de telle sorte que le gaz de refroidissement adressé à l'entrée de gaz de refroidissement (44', 44') doit s'écouler à travers le canal d'alimentation principal annulaire (52, 52') à travers plusieurs chambres de foyer (12) avant qu'il ne s'écoule à travers le passage de gaz de refroidissement (60', 60') dans le canal de distribution principal annulaire (54, 54').
