Abstract A spin casting style fishing reel is disclosed which hangs below a fishing rod. The reel has a back support housing, a reel body, and a front cover. The internal mechanism may be mounted to the reel body and, when so assembled, consists of a single unit. The reel body is mounted to the back support housing, said housing having the stem and mounting foot for mounting to the fishing rod. The front cover is mounted over the other end of the reel body to complete the assembly of the fishing reel.
