A mixing impeller for use with a portable electric drill, said impeller being adapted for mixing mortars, concrete and the like and comprising an elongated shaft having a first end shaped to fit against rotation into a standard drill chuck and a second end to which a mixing blade is attached, said mixing blade being form from a bar which extends to opposite sides of said shaft to define a pair of blade sections, each of said sections curving back towards said first end of said shaft without meeting with one another. In an aspect of the invention a method for mixing mortar, cement or concrete is provided using the mixing impeller of the present invention.
