A package is described comprising a bag with at least two layers, an outer layer comprised of kraft paper and an inner layer comprising of a thinly extruded polymeric material. The bag is at least partially filled with raw, unshelled nuts or seeds for roasting. The product is roasted by placing the bag in a microwave oven and cooking for a predetermined time limit to achieve the desired texture and crunchiness of the roasted product, and then allowing the food contents to cool thereby improving the crunchiness of the roasted product.
