(57) Abstract: Porous composite particles are provided which comprise an aluminum oxide component, e.g., crystalline boehmite, and a swellable clay component, e.g., synthetic hectorite, intimately dispersed within the aluminum oxide component at an amount effective to increase the hydrothermal stability, pore volume, and/or the mesopore pore mode of the composite particles relative to the absence of the swellable clay. Also provided is a method for making the composite particles, agglomerate particles derived therefrom, and a process for hydroprocessing petroleum feedstock using the agglomerates to support a hydroprocessing catalyst. In said composite particles (A) the alumina oxide component comprises at least 75 wt. % alumina, at least 5 wt. % of which alumina is in the form of crystalline boehmite, gamma alumina derived from the crystalline boehmite, or mixtures thereof, (B) the swellable clay component is dispersible prior to incorporation into the composite particle and present in the composite particles at an amount (i) of less than 10 wt. %, based on the combined weight of the aluminum oxide component and the swellable clay component.

L'invention concerne des particules de composite poreux constitué d'un composant oxyde d'aluminium, par exemple de la boehmite cristalline, et d'un composant argile gonflante, par exemple de l'hectorite synthétique, intimement dispersée dans le composant oxyde d'aluminium en une quantité permettant d'améliorer la stabilité hydrothermique, le volume de pore, et/ou le mode de pore à mésopore des particules de composite par rapport à l'absence d'argile gonflante. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé destiné à fabriquer les particules de composite, des agglomérats de ces particules, ainsi qu'un procédé d'hydrotraitement de matières premières pétrolifères utilisant les agglomérats comme support de catalyseur d'hydrotraitement. Dans ces particules de composite, (A) le composant oxyde d'aluminium comprend au moins 75 % en poids d'alumine, au moins 5 % en poids de cette alumine étant sous la forme de boehmite cristalline, de l'alumine gamma dérivée de la boehmite cristalline, ou des mélanges de ces matières, (B) le composant argile gonflante est, avant son incorporation dans la particule composite, mis sous forme dispersée et présent dans les particules de composite en une quantité inférieure à 10 % en poids du total représenté par les composants oxyde d'aluminium et argile gonflante.
