The present invention provides several assay formats for determining the effect of compounds on one or more metabolism-associated phenotypes in a cell, tissue or animal. The assay formats are based upon the finding that the proto- oncogene Cbl is involved in modulating basal glucose uptake, metabolic rate, adipogenesis, muscle thermogenesis, mitochondrial structure and function, the ratio of lean muscle mass to body fat and feeding behavior.

L'invention concerne plusieurs formats d'essai permettant de déterminer l'effet de composés sur un ou plusieurs phénotypes associés au métabolisme dans une cellule ou un tissu ou chez un animal. Les formats considérés ont été établis à partir de la constatation selon laquelle le proto-oncogène Cbl intervient dans la modulation de l'assimilation métabolique du glucose, du métabolisme basal, de l'adipogenèse, de la thermogenèse musculaire, de la structure et de la fonction mitochondriale, du rapport masse musculaire maigre/masse adipeuse, et du comportement alimentaire.
