- 14 - TERMINAL EMULATION SYSTEM Abstract A centralized management system, resident upon a DOS-based personal computer, which is capable of emulating multiple cross-connect or switch management terminals. Multiple cross-connect or switch management terminals are emulated upon a centralized management system, resident upon a DOS-based personal computer. The system employs a graphical user interface which allows each of the emulated terminals to be represented as a window upon a single monitor. A user of the system can simultaneously monitor all of the emulated terminals via the windows, and issue commands controlling a selected one of these emulated terminals. The user selects the particular emulated terminal to which a command is to be issued by designating the window associated with that terminal as "current". The number, size, and/or relative location of the windows displayed may be dynamically reconfigured as needed. A given window may be minimized in size, or iconized if control of the particular switching system to which that window relates is not of primary interest, or if the particular switching system to which the window relates is off-line. In a particular embodiment of the invention, a user can access up to eight emulated terminals, and execute command scripts, command editing, command recording, log printing, and terminal performance reporting for each of the emulated terminals.
