ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A piston assembly comprising a piston rod for connection to a crankshaft and having at its upper end a pair of laterally displaced first and second convex bearing surfaces, a receiving cup formed on said piston head, said receiving cup having complementary first and second concave bearing surfaces that mate with said respective first and second convex bearing surfaces to form twin pivots such that during a first angularity of the piston rod, the piston rod pivots about a first pivot axis associated with said first convex bearing surface and during a second angularity of the piston rod, the piston rod pivots about a second pivot axis associated with said second convex bearing surface; said first and second concave bearing surfaces having respective centers of curvature coincident with the pivot axis of the opposed convex bearing surface such that during pivoting of the piston rod about one of said pivots the convex bearing surface associated with the other pivot remains in bearing contact with its associated concave bearing surface.
